Five ways to keep everyone safe and sound while celebrating the Christmas holidays.

The coronavirus pandemic may mean that Christmas is going to look a little bit different this year. Now, before your inner grinch comes out, we’ve put together our tips and tricks to bring some fun and creativity to your 2020 holiday season.

1. Do your gift shopping online and get it done early

As many people will be turning to online shopping this year to avoid being in crowded retail stores and shopping malls, shipping companies are sure to be very busy. Completing your shopping early ensures there will be plenty of time for your parcels to arrive, which in turn will reduce the stress of constantly refreshing websites to track packages in the final days before Christmas.

2. Spread joy around

There’s no better feeling than receiving a package or a piece of mail with your name on it! 2020 has given us the time to realize how important it is to tell those near and dear how much they mean, and what better time to do it than the holiday season! Sending a Christmas card, dropping off baked goods or even ordering a pizza to someone you love or someone in need will bring smiles and warmth to all.

3. Create special memories

Although the members of your household may be growing tired of each other, the holidays bring about the opportunity to create a bucket list of seasonal activities to check off. Creating an activity advent calendar is sure to bring about new memories and help brighten up even the darkest of days. Now’s the time to watch your favourite holiday flick, listen to some jingles, bake up a storm, deck the halls and don’t forget to build a snowman!

4. Find ways to gather outside this season

By following public health recommendations and avoiding indoor get-togethers, we can keep everyone as safe as possible. However, the Christmas season also brings about winter weather so gathering outside could be a little chilly for all. Consider keeping any get togethers during the day while there is some sunlight and think of outdoor activities that could also keep you warm, such as sledding or gathering around a campfire. Don’t forget the hot cocoa to keep everyone toasty!

5. Carry out important Christmas traditions

What really is Christmas to you? Is it hanging stockings by the fireplace? Is it candy canes and gingerbread houses? Is it hanging lights and bulbs on a spruce tree? Is it counting down by eating a delicious chocolate out of an advent calendar for the month of December? Even though we may be unable to fulfill all of our regular Christmas customs this year, if we prioritize the ones nearest and dearest, they are sure to make this holiday season a happy one!

How are you going to make the most of a quiet(er) holiday season in 2020?
