Though the majority of snowfall is meant to hit our southern neighbours, Burlington, Hamilton and Waterdown did not escape unscathed. In such cold, miserable weather, it can be hard to coax buyers out of their home and into yours for an open house visit. Make the journey a little easier by creating a cozy refuge from the frigid weather in your home. Read below for some of our top tips!
Introduce texture and softness
Winter is the perfect time to let buyers dream about living in your home because you can show them how cozy and relaxing it is. Throw a soft, plush throw over a leather couch, and the buyer will instantly think of wrapping themselves in it. Even better – toss a cashmere bathrobe in a hard-to-miss place in the washroom, and potential buyers will instantly see it as refuge from a long, cold day.
Get visual
Winter days are notoriously short and draining, and everyone craves a little more light. During daylight hours, pull all curtains and blinds away to let the natural light fall in. For open houses or showings later in the afternoon, use beeswax candles or soft table lamps to make rooms more inviting.
Gear up
The first thing potential buyers likely see when they enter your home is the front entrance way. If it’s a mess of wet boots and a scattered arrangement of coats, you can almost kiss the sale away. Although a messy entrance is a reality, there are certainly ways to make it look presentable and appealing. Put an absorbent mat at the front door to help sop up any messes, and invest in a spacious shoe rack to put all boots and footwear. One final tip: ensure the door to your front hall closet is secured – you don’t want it to open unexpectedly and reveal your mess.
