We have an update on Woolcott Real Estate’s sponsor dog, Packer!

In our last update, Packer had recently turned a year old and was working with her puppy raiser, Adrienne, on a few new skills such as building up her duration of maintaining a “sit, stay” or “down, stay” and recall with dog distractions.

Packer and Adrienne endured a new normal and routine since COVID-19. Packer would normally join Adrienne at the chiropractic clinic for school. “However, the clinic shut down due to COVID-19 and like much of the rest of the world, we switched to virtual clinic/schooling to practice social distancing.” said Adrienne.  “We’ve been working on skills within the house but it hasn’t been quite the same as having real in person distractions to work on dog distraction and meet and greets. We’ve learned some new skills such as touch (nose boop to different surfaces), turn around, and passing a ball.”

In the recent weeks, Packer was released from the National Service Dog program and adopted into the very loving hands of Adrienne.

What’s next for Packer and Adrienne? Lots! Adrienne is hoping to work with a private trainer to still have Packer certified as a Service Dog. This way Packer can assist Adrienne’s future chiropractic patients and support Hamilton firefighters after traumatic calls.

Besides all of this hard work, they have had time to adventure outside on the Bruce Trail in Hamilton and explore other trails and waterfalls in the area. “We have also gone to the fire station to visit my dad at work and practice working around first responders in uniform.” said Adrienne. More recently Packer has started modelling for a local dog accessory store in Binbrook called, Happy Paws Company.

We are so excited to see Packer on her continued journey to becoming a Service Dog.
