One of my favourite things about Hamilton is that there’s always something going on. No matter the time of year, there’s a festival, fair or community event that brings people together. These are a few of my favourite festivals in and around Hamilton. Featuring live music and incredible food to small-town traditions and family favourites, these are the events I look forward to year after year.
Supercrawl
One of my all-time favourite events is Hamilton’s Supercrawl. It runs every September and transforms James Street North into one of Canada’s largest free arts and music festivals. For the entire weekend, there are free live performances from recognized musicians, an artisan market, delicious food trucks and patios, interactive art installations and family-friendly activities for everyone.
My favourite aspect of Supercrawl is the amazing atmosphere. Everyone is in a great mood and excited to explore the local vendors, bands & everything else the festival has to offer. Supercrawl is a fantastic opportunity to explore Hamilton, and to get to see one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in such a unique way. Best of all, admission is free, making it an accessible weekend for all!

Waterdown Ribfest
Since I grew up in Waterdown, I had to include my favourite festival from childhood… the Waterdown Ribfest. Every year on Canada Day weekend, Waterdown Memorial Park transforms into one of the community’s biggest celebrations. There are more rides than you can imagine, games for kids, incredible live music, and of course, world-class ribs. I think my favourite part of the Waterdown Ribfest is its location. Sure, there are Ribfests in other cities, but nothing quite compares to Waterdown. You get all the excitement of a large festival while still enjoying the small-town charm. Running into old school friends, neighbours and familiar faces is what keeps the Waterdown Ribfest at the top of my list year after year.
Summer in the Hamilton area is truly something special. Beyond these great festivals, there’s so much to see and do. Continue exploring the area by reading: Must-Visit Markets in Hamilton this Summer
Festival of Friends
Hamilton’s Festival of Friends is the perfect way to kick off the August long weekend. Held every summer in Gage Park, it’s one of those festivals that appeals to everyone. They feature live concerts, plenty of delicious food vendors and a ton of activities/shopping in the artisan market. I think my favourite part of the Festival of Friends is how easy it is to spend an entire day there. I find myself getting lost in the market or spending too much time listening to the music. I also love that this festival is free, making it easy to access for everyone in Hamilton!

Dundas Cactus Festival
Every June, the streets of downtown Dundas are filled with live entertainment, local vendors, delicious food and plenty of activities for all ages. It’s the perfect way to kick off summer in one of Hamilton’s most charming communities! I love attending this event because I rarely make it out to Dundas, and it’s the perfect excuse to spend the day exploring downtown. There are so many amazing shops and local vendors that I never seem to find the time to visit.
