The spirit of Halloween will be in full display at a number of events in and around Burlington as the end of the month approaches. There are ways to keep the kids entertained, chances to enjoy some dressing-up of your own, and of course, lots of treats on offer. Have a look at what’s scheduled for our area between now and Halloween.
Halloween Hike for Heart
While there are plenty of goodies up for the taking at this time of the year, you also have the opportunity to give back. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is holding a unique family and community fundraising hike at Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Sunday, October 26. You can hike with your kids, and even your pets, through 5 kilometers of scarecrow-directed trails. The hike gets underway at 10 a.m., and prizes for the best costumes will be handed out at noon.
Treats in our Streets
You can get a head start on trick-or-treating by bringing the family to downtown Burlington on Saturday, October 25. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., participating businesses throughout downtown Burlington will have their doors open to trick-or-treaters. Put on your best costume and collect goodies as you stroll through the streets for Treats in our Streets. Plus, there will be activity centres set up throughout the area, so there’s more to the day than just sugar! Start your trek at Civic Square or Emma’s Back Porch. Maps of featured businesses, treat stops, and activity centres will be provided.
Burlington Mall’s Spooktacular Halloween Event
If you need a little something extra to really cap off your Halloween costume, why not get your face painted? Don your best costume and head over to the Burlington Mall on Sunday, October 26 between noon and 4 p.m. for face-painting, treats from participating stores, and photographs with some spooky Halloween characters.
Ghost Trek at the Joseph Brant Museum
Nothing says Halloween like a day full of ghost-themed activities. That’s just what you’ll find at Burlington’s Joseph Brant Museum on Sunday, October 26 from 1-4 p.m. Bring the whole family to the museum and create some creepy crafts, watch some spooky cartoons, and concoct a few tasty treats! Of course, you’re welcome – nay, encouraged – to wear a costume.
Tiny Tots on Parade
Pint-sized ghosts, witches, and goblins will be marching through the streets of downtown Oakville on October 31. From 10 a.m. to noon, trick-or-treaters can show off their costumes and stop into local shops to load up their treat bags. Kids will also have a chance to meet members of the Oakville Fire Department and Halton Regional Police. All the festivities kick off at Oakville’s Towne Square.
The Firehall’s Annual Halloween Party
If you’re looking for some more grown-up Halloween fun, head over to The Firehall Cool Bar Hot Grill in Oakville. Get creative with your Halloween outfit, because there’s $250 up for grabs for the best women’s costume, and $250 for the best men’s costume. And even if you don’t win, you can dance all night with live DJs spinning the tunes, and sip on a wicked cocktail crafted by The Firehall’s bartenders. The revelry gets underway at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 31.
