This summer feels like it’s flown by, and it’s been a hot one! If you’re looking for the best swim spots in the Hamilton/Burlington area, I’ve got you. Here are a few of my personal favourites, plus some hidden gems for you and your family to dip your toes in for a fun summer day.
1.Christie Lake Conservation Area – Dundas
I basically grew up going to Christie Lake, and my sister takes her kids there to this day. And it’s no surprise. Christie Lake is one of those places where you’ll feel like you have a provincial park right in your backyard.
With 360 metres of sandy beach (the cleanest around town in my opinion), it’s perfect for relaxing on the beach, enjoying family picnics, kayaking or paddleboarding. If you’re there early enough, you might even catch a peaceful morning yoga session happening out on the water. This one’s definitely a go-to!

2. Wild Waterworks – Hamilton
What’s wild about Wild Waterworks is that not much has changed since it first opened in the early 80s. My sister and I recently took her kids, and I felt like I was transported back to my childhood.
From the Wave Pool to the Lazy River (now known as the Eazy River) to the food concession, there’s something for everyone. Insider tip that not everybody knows: you can bring your own food into the park, making it an affordable family outing.
If that already sounds like your vibe, wait until you try the tube slides. The lines can get long but it’s worth the wait. Key to our youth and full of memories, your summer can’t conclude without a visit to Wild Waterworks.
3. Port Dover Beach – Norfolk County
If you’re looking for a summer day trip and are up for a drive, you must go to the little town of Port Dover. Chock-full of small-town charm, with its quaint shops, laid back waterfront vibe and of course its sandy beach, Port Dover gives you lots of reasons to spend the day here.
At the heart of this little town is the iconic Erie Beach Hotel.
Fun fact: Jayne grew up in Port Dover and spent time working here, which makes this local favourite even more special. With a cozy little restaurant and a new rooftop patio, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a meal while taking in the views and soaking up the atmosphere. And you can’t leave without trying their celery bread!
4. Valens Lake Conservation Area – Flamborough
Tucked away in the town of Flamborough, Valens is a great place to pitch a tent and enjoy the beach and peaceful lake views. This is another one that my sister and I love to visit with her kids.
One of the highlights is the beautiful boardwalk that winds through the area, the perfect racing strip for the kids or a place to enjoy a little nature walk after a day of swimming (it’s also a pretty sweet spot for a photo op!).
Whether you’re looking to get outside, let the kids burn off some energy or simply enjoy a slower-paced summer day, Valens Lake is a summer favourite that deserves a spot on your list.

5. Mountainside Pool & Splash Park – Burlington
If you’re closer to Burlington and need a break from sandy swimwear, this one’s for you. Mountainside Pool & Splash Park is one of those easy summer spots where you can show up for a few hours and let the kids have a blast.
Featuring a large outdoor pool, a splash pad for younger kids, a waterslide, plenty of shade, and even a rock wall for those little adventurers who love to climb and jump (which, if you know me, is very cool). It’s a great option when you want all the fun of a water day without committing to a full-day admission.
